Weird Beard (Often abbreviated "Weird" or "Weirdo") Six on this plane (Three Thousand Eighty Two total) February | NA None Dimensional Drune | |
Weird Beard |
★ APPEARANCE
Weird Beard appears as a "normal" if haggard wizard in this dimension, although nothing ever seems quite right about him. His speech and even his outline are always a bit "off". He appears old but not elderly and always seems to have not slept enough; his eyes beset with bags and his face long. His hair is black but grey is creeping into it like a eager fungus. However, the most noticeable and bizarre thing about Weird Beard's appearance is due to the fact he doesn't actually look like how he appears, that his appearance it basically a image he projects to make it easier to communicate and that he is in fact a humanoid shaped avatar of a 5th dimensional entity that can hardly be understood by the human eye. Since Weird Beard's appearance is just an image projected on top of his body and he has not mastered this very difficult process he always appears to be facing whoever is viewing him. Even if several people were to view weird beard simultaneously, his "front" would face all of them at the same time, regardless of Weird Beard's actual facing. For example, if you stood still and Weird Beard walked past you he would appear to start walking sideways, staring right at you, as he passed you than would appear to start moon-walking backwards, still staring at you. He does not appear two dimensional, but his back can not be seen. The best way to understand the reason for this is to think of Weird Beard as a computer that has to individually create a new image for every angle one can view him at and broadcast them based on which direction people are facing him. So he has neither the skill, time or patience to render what the side and back of his body would look like, or provide a seamless transition to make turning around seem natural, so he simply shows a stock image of his "front" all the time. His mouth can still move and he may still blink, but all of this is his actual body moving the same image of his "front" all of the time. This can cause several highly unpleasant visual experiences to occur, such as Weird Beard appearing to bend his legs or arms in the wrong direction (many people run screaming when viewing Weird Beard sitting in a chair from behind) or appearing to be bending over at an impossible angle when viewed from directly above.
★ PERSONALITY
Weird Beard acts strange (hence his name) at almost all times. People will often address him only for him to respond a full 8 seconds later, he will often stop mid sentence to do something completely unrelated to what he was saying and he has very few ideas about what the concepts of ownership or personal space mean. Weird Beard does not mean to annoy or frighten anyone and if someone were to express concern about him, say, standing at the foot of their bed for hours while they sleep, he would be deeply apologetic. He simply finds things like navigating three dimensional space and human thinking foreign and strange. He almost always has some lofty goal or important project to attend to and is usually in a hurry. He values honesty, perseverance and intelligence.
★ HISTORY
Weird Beard's tale is quite complex, so for quick reference, here is a simple version: Thousands of years ago 6 Druids were killed by an evil sorcerer and their souls ascended into the elder plane (in the 5th dimension). After centuries the souls slowly clung together like dryer lint. Weird Beard is that dryer lint.
Weird Beard still exists in the 5th dimension, but is isolated, unable to interact or do anything until he found a way into the 3rd dimension, which had not experienced the arcane singularity that the 5th has as still has "life" in it. He spent several years after entering this realm trying to fully understand how to project himself in a way humans could see and understand, as he needed to blend into their society to do the research and tasks needed to stop the 6 druid sages from being killed in the first place. This is to stop the 5th dimension from experiencing that arcane singularity caused by Taraptus the sorcerer (the very same sorcerer that killed the 6 sages). In essence, he is trying to stop "himself" from ever being born, saving the entities that used to be the sages from ever being exiled. Weird beard has since found a suitable way of appearing "normal" and now consorts with and seeks the help of other wizards and mages to accomplish his goals. His time spent in the void of the 5th dimension and his memories of the 6 druids who make up his body and mind are very difficult to remember for him and are only recalled as vague emotions and feelings.
PRIMARY SPECIALIZATION
Weird Beard is made up of druids but, being a new single entity and not having ever had any druid training can not practice druidic magic. However, his status as a 5th dimensional entity in a 3 dimensional world as well as his natural arcane talents manifest in a scattered magical "style" that can be called "Dimension Magic". Weird Beard basically exists in a "lesser" world that he perceives and interacts with in a unique way. For example, at a moment in time he may be viewing an area in either the past or future, and not see a wall, even though he knows it's there, effectively seeing through it. He may be able to show a friend a special route to walk that serves as a dimensional lay-line that could turn a day long journey into a 4 minute stroll (and likely nauseate the walker). At a more direct level, he can alter objects and people's "being" by applying maddening "non-euclidean" geometry to them. What this actually does is hard to explain and quite appalling, but Weird Beard has limited control over this power and more often than not the effects are just pain, internal bleeding and general weakness.
Eyes Through Time
Weird Beard uses his place out of our time-stream to see objects or places in either the future or the past to glean new insights about them. There are two major limitations to this fantastical ability. The first being that he can not glimpse people who there in the past or future, as people are more closely attached to fate than linear cause and effect time progression. The second is that he can only interact with the environment in it's present state, as that is where he "is" in a dianetic sense. This spell can be "cast" very quickly (1 post) and it's effects can last for a few posts.
Dimensional Layline
Weird Beard uses his dimensional "bird's eye view" to find a much quicker way to move from point a to b, or a way to slow down a pursuer or the like. By doing this he can cut down transport time by about 50-80%, allowing a 5 minute journey to take about 1-2 minutes. Anyone aside from weird beard would likely find this experience at the very least mildly unpleasant and experience vertigo as well as a healthy level of confusion. Imagine walking to your kitchen by walking around your bed 3 times and than opening the door to your bathroom! To outside observers the traveler would appear to rapidly blink in and out of existence, moving from one area to the next. In the previous example a viewer would see them round the bed than disappear and reappear in front of the bathroom, disappear again and than reappear moments later in the kitchen. Casting this spell takes one post and limits the amount of time physical travel will take.
Alter Geometry
Weird Beard adds and removes the geometry of a target, warping their body on an unseen scale and causing intense pain and confusion. If he concentrates this power on a living being long enough, they will weaken and eventually pass out. However, the governing bodies of the 3rd dimension do not allow such altercation to keep and the chances of this ability to kill something larger than a hefty cat before the internal damage mends itself are decidedly low. The spell only makes itself known to the naked sense as a high pitched whining sound that is barely audible and yet highly unpleasant, a wavy shimmer in the air and a slight smell of what could be rotten eggs. After 1 post the target will feel a bit weird and uncomfortable, after 2 they will be weakened and after 4 they will likely pass out for a considerable time.
SECONDARY SPECIALIZATION
Weird Beard is attempting to learn time magic to help reverse the woeful events of his past. However, Weird Beard has not had to or had the chance to learn much in the past few centuries and is terrible at picking up this complex form of magic. He only knows a few very situational tricks at the moment.
Chronological Back-peddle
Weird Beard returns an item to a recent (within 1-5 minutes) state, mending damage, restoring usefulness or simply fooling someone with a watch into thinking it's 4 minutes earlier. This spell immediately reverts the object and does not appear to rewind time and creates a quick burst of hot air and the smell of whatever the object is made of burning. This spell can be used on living things but is not safe at all to do so and would have identical effects to "alter geometry". This can alter an object to a previous state up to 6 posts back.
Chronological Edit
Weird Beard essentially searches hyper-time and finds a universe where someone didn't make a minor mistake, such as dropping an important key, misspelling something in ink or missing a troll with a fireball and replaces this universe with that one. Essentially, it is now treated as if that event happened and everyone remembers that it did, even though it previously did not. This power is for minor mistakes only as using this spell when anything major is at stake could cause serious problems that could, I don't know, cause Morty Mcfly to disappear. It also can not fix a mistake that happened any more than 20 seconds ago, as the amount of variables could cause similar problems. This can fix a mistake up to 2 posts back and would take the vast majority of Weird Beard's turn.
