Daja Alziers |
★ APPEARANCE
Daja is a large woman, possessing both height and muscles. In height she approaches six foot (standing at 5’10’’) and has the tendency to tower over men and other women. While she is not burly per say, there is more muscle than meat on her bones. Most of her muscle mass is centered around her upper arms and back—earned from many years hammering away at the forge. Overall, this gives her a decidedly unfeminine look—well traditional femininity, at least. There is a sort feminine charm about her—but that comes largely from her manner of dress. In terms of skin coloration, she is fairly dark. Her skin is a nut brown—tanned from long hours at the forge. While once her hair might have been long, and suitably girlish, it’s now cropped close to her head. Her eyes are round and slightly wide-spaced. In terms of color, her eyes are a dark hazel that boarders on appearing gold at times.
While Daja might be a rough and tumble masculine character personality wise, she does let her feminine side show threw in her manner of dress. When not working at her forge or out hunting for new materials, she tend to roam about in sandals and a loose fitting top—usually bearing some sort of floral print. She usually tends to stay away from skirts or dresses, finding them restricting in her work. Fashion beyond what appeals to her aesthetically is not a concept she has mastered. This leaves her with some pretty… unusual outfit choices, though she would just claim them to be a part of her charm. Inside the forge, practicality takes control, and she tends to wear thicker clothing that covers more of her body to protect it. Given that her experience with adventuring and monster slaying is fairly low, it’s these leathers that she wears out on her excursions, sacrificing pretty clothes for an extra layer of protection. She hopes.
★ PERSONALITY
Complementing her physical large-ness, Daja has a rather big personality. She has little qualms getting up in front of a large group of people and giving a long winded talk—in fact, she thinks of herself as quite the wise-cracker, though most of her jokes tend to be more embarrassing than funny. While she does have quite the temper at times, usually she’s fairly good-natured. She more than happy to breeze through life, and if you don’t anger her she won’t go out of her way to find a problem with you. However, should you incite her wrath… well don’t expect her simmering pot of rage to cool down any time soon. When angered, she has a tendency to speak before she thinks things all the way through—often escalating a fight that could have been easily avoided. If she does take a shine to you—well the opposite occurs. She’s incredibly trusting of people she likes (even if they aren’t the most trustworthy of characters) and will do anything to help out a friend (even if they were, say, found covered in blood at a murder scene holding the murder weapon). Outside of work, she tends to appear to be a much laid back person. However, inside the forge is a whole other story. She takes her work highly seriously, and the optimistic cheerful woman disappears when she enters the forge. Don’t get us wrong, she loves her work, but it requires the utmost concentration and diligence.
Besides wrath, Daja’s other favorite deadly sin would be pride. She considers herself to be a weapon smith par-excellence and has on more than one occasion bit off more than she can chew. Despite being in her mid-thirties, Daja hasn’t quite learned her limits just yet. She has the energy of a twenty-year old and the enthusiasm to match. Wanna go take down that evil dragon? Daja’s your gal—just make sure she gets an equal share of the loot, and that she gets first dibs on any metals that might be mystical or magical in origin. Due to her upbringing, and connection to crafting items, Daja believes that objects have souls—though are not exactly sentient or deserve the same rights as humanoids. This belief makes her oddly sentimental, and she clings to old objects, refusing to throw them out.
★ HISTORY
Daja was born the eldest of three daughters, to a young blacksmith who worked in a large boarder town. The town was situated far to the east on the map, and was smack dab in the middle of a burning desert. While not the premier blacksmith in the land, he was talented enough and was quite happy to teach his eldest daughter his trade when she expressed interest. Daja proved to be a hard-working apprentice and was set to take over her father’s business when the older man retired. While inexperienced, she has a great passion for her work and seemed to have a natural talent in working with fire and metal. Most of her commissions were for mundane objects, but she always reserved a special passion for creating weapons. Due to some shameless self-promotion, she managed to get a few jobs creating new weapons for Imperial soldiers.
This is where she met her husband, Hakeem Alziers. Hakeem and Daja were like two peas in a pod—he considered himself to be something of a lady’s man, and Daja considered herself to be a Gentleman-slayer (not really true in either case). They married: however, due to conflicting schedules—Daja needed to stay by the forge and Hakeem still living in the barracks, they never had any children. At this point in her life Daja was in her mid-twenties and had not yet discovered that she was a witch. While she was able to craft weapons that did appear to have some sort of magical quality, she always attributed this to being talented (which in a way was correct. She was just very wrong about what type of talent it was). This was when war came to Daja’s home. Though it was good for her business, it was pretty poor for everything else. The Imperial soldiers were rapidly overcome by the opposing forces from the neighboring kingdom. It was here that Daja first picked up on of the weapon’s she had crafted, and it was here that she discovered her abilities as a spellhammer. This discovery opened the well-gate allowing her to fully realize something she had known from the first time she’d picked up a hammer—Forge magic.
Of course, as all discoveries do, this came with a cast. One newbie witch was not enough to sway the tides of an invading army. Her sisters were able to escape with their husbands and children. Her mother ran back to the Imperial Capital to live out the rest of her days with her family there. Her father was too tired to run, and decided to die with his forge. Hakeem died with his boots on and a sword of her crafting in her hand, and her forge lay burned. Having nothing left, she picked up the rest of her supplies and moved on, hoping to ply her trade elsewhere. She was thirty at the time. It was at this time that she, quite serendipitously, heard about Dorcha Hollow. At the time, she had no intentions of leaving the non-magical population, but saw a wonderful opportunity arising. The settlers did not have a blacksmith already—much less a magical one—and would need someone to craft everyday items and weapons for them. In addition, the high concentration of magicians and magical items meant that Daja would be able to learn more about the strange forces she controls. She has no idealistic reasons for joining Dorcha Hollow, and finds some of it rather silly (though she never faced some of the discrimination that others had). One day maybe she’ll return to the non-magical population—after all that’s where all the money is—but for now she’s quite content to create a forge in town. And maybe slay a dragon.
She pretty excited about that.

★ MAGIC
PRIMARY SPECIALIZATION | Magic Smith (crafting)
Given time, fire, metal (and a hammer) Daja is able to forge items of particular quality and might even have some magical abilities. Maybe. Possibly, despite being her primary specialization Daja is still throwing metaphorical spaghetti against the wall, to see what sticks. When asked about her abilities, she claims that it is necessary to speak (and usually argue) with the ore in order to get it to do what it is supposed to. Though she refers to this as a dialogue to a casual observer, merely looks like a smith working away at a piece of ore. However, by speaking with an ore's 'soul', she is able to tap into their innate abilities and create magical items.
Journeyman’s Piece
Using magical ore and her own talents, Daja is able to create an intermediate magical weapon. The type of weapon can be one her choice, but it must be made of metal (meaning that she could not make magical bows for example). This weapon counts as an intermediate magical weapon—however, Daja herself has no control over what magical abilities it has, as she is merely just tapping into a particular piece of ore’s power (or arguing with it. It’s all semantics, really).
Blessings of the Forge Lord
Upon using this spell—whether through luck or some actual blessing—Daja is able to locate a vein of ore with magic qualities. This allows her to find more of a particular variety of ore at the end of a hunting thread. However, this does not grant her understanding of the qualities that the metal possesses.
Refine Weapon
Given adequate time in her forge, Daja is able to fiddle fuck around with a normal weapon and bestow minor magical qualities to it—often this involves arguing and persuasive maintenance. By using certain metal ores, she is able to bestow minor magical properties to items (such as creating a dagger that does not dull). This spell can also be used to restore broken items, so long as they are not magical items that are higher than Beginner level (this restriction applies to intermediate magical items that she herself creates.)
SECONDARY SPECIALIZATION | Spell Hammer (Fire Offensive)
Martial skills are something that Daja picked up later in life, resulting in her limited abilities as a spellhammer. Typically, her abilities involved strong strikes—like a smith hammering at an anvil—to channel her magical abilities. She prefers using her strength and quick wits rather than grace and precise movements in her form, and is able to combine powerful strikes with deadly fire magic.
Hammer of the Forge Lord
Daja delivers a devastating blow—though not necessarily with a hammer—to a target. Once connected, it generates enough heat to temporarily catch the target on fire. This fire is not considered magical and can be put out through normal means—eg. water or smothering—if no attempts to put the fire out are taken, it can burn for a prolonged period of time. However, it is relatively easy to put out (no more than one post). The broken ribs might take a little longer to heal, though.
Striker of the Forge Lord
Daja delivers a powerful overhand strike which , upon contact, it summons a powerful burst of flames which catches the target on fire, and also has the chance to catch any adjacent enemies on fire as well. Daja is immune to this spell; however, friendly fire is possible. This fire is considered non-magical and can be put out by normal means. In addition, due to it burning unusually hot, it burns quickly. This means that it will go out shortly (two posts maximum) of being summoned.
