Guilds?

I have been pondering this crude idea, and I haven't refined anything yet (if you'll forgive the miner terminology), but I was wondering what it would be like to implement a guild system to help train "new mages"? This idea would not take effect until there were a bunch of us, but it would serve to give them a kind of foundation. There would be apprenticeships and masters of their craft. *shrug* I dunno. Food for thought. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guild <-- started my thinking.

We could definitely implement a "Guild System" for the mages. As you said though, it would probably be better when we've got some stronger mages with more than just a few beginner spells, and more members in general.
I could easily put together some more member groups for each specific Guild, and you can elect who would be the Master of each Guild. Certainly sounds like a good idea, especially for the setting. The magic users would want to share their secrets and powers with other magic users, so they could all be on similar levels and survive together.
Interesting idea. Thoughts anyone?

I think my question would be how are we going to divide the guilds-- based on offensive, support and crafting? In character, it's probably make more sense for offensive and support, but I'd be less sure about crafting. I mean I don't think a Herbalist master would be very helpful to a Scribe apprentice. It might not matter that much when the site gets bigger (and there might be a bunch of herbalists and scribes and what not for their own individual guilds).
That being said I think it's an awesome idea--we could even have some guild vr. guild events (friendly competition of course)--I'd just be curious on how we'd organize it, and have some options for people who might want to be recluses.

I would think even with offensive and support magic you would have to break it up, probably by element. I mean a master of Fire magic couldn't really teach someone Ice spells. As for Crafting though, as you said Fraye, it would be more about what they craft rather the element they use for crafting (cause there isn't a ton of variation there)
I think, as we get more members and the characters get more advanced magic, I would allow someone to suggest that they want to form a Guild for a specific thing, rather than have a ton of empty Guilds. Then those folks can decide who the Guildmaster would be, or the like, I suppose. If Guild buildings become actual site areas, there could always just be NPC Guildmembers due to the fact that some specializations would have much fewer members than others.
I dunno how exactly it would work out right now... definitely something to think about though :3
Friendly Guild events does sound fun *plots* hehehe~

I think guilds are a fantastic idea! Once we get enough people of each specialization, it would really help to make the site more eventful and active. There could be enchanters, potionmakers, spellswords, assassins, and more--even vampires if we get enough of those. I don't think we'd even need to divide them up by element. I mean, of course it would be easier to learn spells in your element of specialization, but I think the nature of the spell is more important, at least sometimes.
