THE SILENT MUSICIAN TWENTY-THREE MAY 19TH | FEMALE BISEXUAL BARD | |
DAKOTA MASTERS |
★ APPEARANCE
Hardly reaching 5'1" and with soft, rounded features, Dakota can easily be mistaken for younger than she actually is, much to her chagrin. Her relative lack of curves certainly does not help her cause, either. Though it is not unusually so, her skin is pale, and her shoulder-length black hair makes her appear even more pallid. Her eyes are a dark brown, and more often than not are narrowed in annoyance. Used to simple clothing, Dakota prefers comfort over style. She typically wears loose-fitting smocks, tunics, and the like, in muted colors, when available.
Perhaps the most peculiar of her features is the faintly glowing red rune on the front of her neck. Intricate in design, the rune denotes a curse placed upon her by the council of the village she once called home. The curse, one meant to take away her voice, has mangled her vocal chords beyond even magical repair. Ashamed and afraid of this mark, she nearly always hides it with a thick red scarf.
★ PERSONALITY
Though for the most part she tries to keep an optimistic outlook on the world, Dakota often finds herself plagued by sour moods. Once a master of sarcasm and sass, losing her voice has reduced her methods of snark to glaring angrily at people who offend her, and perhaps kicking them in the shins (as that tends to be all she can reach).
When not feeling murderous, Dakota can actually be quite pleasant and even sweet. In such cheerful states, she will, if possible, play some sort of music. Creating sound is her passion, though only since losing her voice has she picked up other forms of music besides singing, and so is somewhat abysmal at it. Though it does not bother her much, her off-tune notes might be annoying to some.
Intelligent and curious, Dakota has always been interested in puzzles and riddles. However, her stubborn refusal to give up on a mystery without solving it, and even her willfulness in general can sometimes put her in over her head. Her complete overconfidence does nothing to help in such situations, sometimes even getting her in more trouble.
★ HISTORY
Dakota's family lived in Davant, a village occupied purely by those with magical abilities. Davant had yet to be ravaged by the wars that drove many witches and wizards from their homes, and so the residents lived in peace.
More than anything as a child, Dakota loved to sing. Both her mother and father nurtured Dakota's passion for music, knowing it could very well one day be her source of magic. Sure enough, she soon learned to weave special notes in her singing. Though at first these notes only planted a suggestion in the listener's mind, as time went on and she mastered the skill, Dakota gradually learned to force small actions on her audience. Though she misused it once or twice as a child, it wasn't until she was a teenager that she truly abused the ability.
After getting in a huge argument with one of her friends, Dakota ordered him to injure himself. Though she immediately regretted it, it did not stop her friend from grievously wounding himself, and he was lucky there was a healer nearby to save him. The healer reported the incident to the council of Davant, who, as punishment and to assure she could not misuse the power again, placed a curse upon Dakota that mangled her vocal chords and removed her ability to speak.
Though she tried to return to some semblance of a normal life, Dakota found it nearly impossible to ignore the coldness with which some of the villagers treated her, and most of all, her own guilt. Only a year after the incident Dakota ran away from her home, and it was only by luck that she came across Dorcha Hollow and began her new life.

★ MAGIC
PRIMARY SPECIALIZATION
MUSICAL METTLE | SUPPORT
Using Musical Mettle, Dakota can harness the raw power of sound and its ability to affect the mind and body. Musical Mettle relies purely on the null element of sound, and as such an audience's ability to hear. If, for whatever reason, the target of any of her Musical Mettle recipients are unable to hear her, Dakota's magic will have no effect.
RHYTHMIC RECOVERY
When she lost her voice, Dakota took up playing instruments to fuel her magic. By playing a soothing tune, melody or rhythm, she has the ability to instantly seal up minor physical wounds. Having practiced Rhythmic Recovery more than her other spells, she is slightly more adept at it. If a wound is too large or grievous for Rhythmic Recover to fully heal it, it will simply lessen the severity of the wound. Uses the null element of sound.
INSTRUMENTAL INSPIRATION
By playing an invigorating tune, melody or rhythm, Dakota can inspire her allies, granting them slightly increased fighting capabilities. Owing to her novice handling of instruments, the buffs granted are not very strong. Uses the null element of sound.
TERRIFYING TUNE
By playing a haunting, unsettling tune, melody or rhythm, Dakota can strike fear in the hearts of her enemies. Owing to her novice handling of instruments, it will not immobilize them, though it may cause them to question or second-guess their attacks. Uses the null element of sound.
SECONDARY SPECIALIZATION
SOUNDWEAVING | CRAFTING
By weaving the null element of sound, Dakota has the ability to craft small objects. Such objects are, unfortunately, only temporary; though the more masterful she grows the longer such creations last. Since they are made of sound, such creations are very fragile, and may fracture and dissipate easily, especially when exposed to loud noises that disrupt their flow of sound.
IMPROMPTU ILLUSION
By shaping and intensifying waves of sound, Dakota has the ability to create small, inconsequential illusions. Owing to her newness to this ability, the illusions created will be entirely white and no more than two feet tall. Such illusions lack a solid physical form, and therefore have very limited uses. Uses the null element of sound.
OBJECT ORCHESTRATION
In addition to spinning illusions out of sound, Dakota has the ability to create small, everyday objects out of sound. Because she is unused to the ability, such creations will always be very small, no more than six square inches. However, unlike the illusions she creates, such objects will have a solid physical form. Examples of things she can create include small cups and coins. Uses the null element of sound.
