Okay okay, bad idea. Mental note: Never visit Foraise Dorcha at night when you're bored. The elf was simply reckless enough to do exactly that. And now, he was busy running from an unknown monster, dagger in hand but not very confident of his aim at something he simply couldn't see. So what did he do? Just run.
A few hours ago, Eldak had risen, unable to sleep. He opted for a leisurely stroll, momentarily forgetting that the monsters lurked about at night. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
While mentally beating himself up, there was a heavy blow on his right, and a menacing, absolutely terrifying growl. Of course, the elvish pirate simply replied in kind, righting himself and regaining his footing with a vicious growl. He couldn't keep it up forever though. Neither did he fancy fighting an opponent he couldn't see. That afternoon, he had already exhausted himself helping out random people, so he didn't have too much energy.
Just in time, the blond ducked, hearing the whistle of air above his head. While doing so, he failed to realise that he had come rather close to the water, his foot failing to make contact with the solid ground and instead plunging into ice-cold water. With a abruptly cut-off manly shriek, the elf disappeared beneath the dark surface of water with an almost unnoticeable splash. 'Course, the frustrated roar of the monster was enough to alert anyone who hadn't heard Eldak.
Upon entering the murky underwater realm, the elf simply swum. Up, down, left or right, he actually had no idea. Eldak's mind kind of zoned at that point, simply focusing on reaching...somewhere. Once or twice, he noticed another presence in the water, but he simply shrugged it off and hoped that he wouldn't be killed by a underwater monster.
Eventually he reached the other side, freezing and soaking wet. The elf managed a rasping incantation, before a small flame lit up before him, hovering in the air in the shape of a small bird as he set about making a small campfire. It didn't take long, and soon the elf sat by a blazing fire. The flickering green-ish flames would keep away the monsters, but might attract some unneeded company. Regardless, he stripped off his sodden shirt, tossing it nearer to the fire. In the strange lighting, the numerous scars across his torso were merely highlighted. Some were clearly new, others old and faded.
Craaack. A twig snapped. Eyes narrowed, the elf spun around, gleaming dagger held up threateningly though he failed to get up. "Who's there?" His voice held a threatening edge, though with an undertone of weariness which rapidly disappeared. At the same time, the flame behind dimmed as he absorbed its energy. Well, he had to be ready to face anyone... or anything, right? CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GANGNAM STYLE

Of course she had broken the string on her vielle bow. And of course the vendor that sold replacements was closed this late at night. So Dakota had set out from Dorcha Hollow to search for something she could use to fix or replace her bow string. She wasn't too concerned about monsters, and miraculously, managed not to run into any. She did, however, notice an unusual smoke trail in the sky.
There wasn't enough smoke for it to be a forest fire. Could it be a campfire, then? Driven by her curiosity, Dakota snuck through the forest towards the lake. Peering through the trees as she approached the smoke, she spotted its source: a curiously green fire, and sitting by it, a half-naked man. She watched him sitting there for a moment, noting the sodden shirt lying off to the side and intrigued by the scars on his body.
Entranced by the enchanted fire (and the rather enchanting man), Dakota crept closer. In her excitement, she forgot one of the most vital things when trying not to be found: to not make any noise. As she inched towards the man, she stepped on a twig, which snapped loudly beneath her foot. She flinched, looking up sharply at the man as he called out into the night.
For a moment, she considered simply staying where she was. However, not knowing how accurate the man was with the dagger he was holding, she decided against it. Though she was foolishly confident in her ability to dodge projectiles, she figured she'd be better off not attempting such a feat in the dark. Slowly, Dakota stepped out from behind the tree she had been hiding behind and into the clearing by the lakeside.
Raising her hands above her head to show she meant no harm, Dakota watched the man carefully for signs of violence. She held this pose for a few moments before slowly lowering her hands towards the pack slung across her shoulder. Opening it, she withdrew the wax tablet and stylus from within, finally looking away from the man to quickly scratch a sentence. When she was finished, she held the tablet out towards him. It read:
Sorry I didn't mean to startle you. Maybe you wouldn't be scared if you had a shirt to protect you. Why were you swimming in the lake at this time of night?
Dakota peered at him closely, curious of his answer.

His hand remained poised with the dagger as the unknown other stepped forward. A girl? She looked pretty young. Green eyes narrowed as she raised her hands, before he relaxed and lowered the weapon, slipping it back into a sheath on his belt.
Suspiciously, he watched as she retrieved a wax tablet and scratched something out. Ah, she couldn't speak. Not a problem there, the elf quite liked the silence. Though too much silence could drive someone mad.
"I'm not scared!" Indignant, the male glared up at her, not bothering to stand. "It's soaked anyway." Pah, he could function perfectly well, shirt or not. Scared?! The Red Buccaneer did not get scared.
At the next statement, he let out a short laugh. "I was...unable to sleep." He paused a little, mentally phrasing his reply. "I got chased by something and fell into the lake." He gestured in the general direction across the lake, where the darkness seemed deeper than ever.
"And what about you?" The elf stood, head cocked to a side as he regarded the girl. Slowly, he made his way to the fire, stooped down and prodded his shirt, sighing when he realised it was still damp. A quick twist and he plonked himself right next to the flickering green flames, a finger absent-mindedly tracing an old scar on his jaw. "What is a young lady like yourself doing out so late at night?" CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GANGNAM STYLE

Dakota visibly relaxed as he sheathed his weapon, smiling at his reaction to her words and shaking her head in mock doubt. She listened to his explanation and laughed when he mentioned falling into the lake. Her own, silent laugh, at least; it almost seemed as though she were wheezing, but in reality she was simply amused.
When he asked about her, she narrowed her eyes and rubbed at the wax tablet furiously, warming it just enough to smooth the surface so she could write another message. Dakota scratched at the wax again for a few minutes before holding it out for the man to read.
First of all I'm not young I'm 23.
The number was underlined several times, slightly obscuring the word beneath it.
My vielle bow broke. I'm l̀o̕ơk̵ing for something to fix it with. Or replace it. Also I think you're scared. Otherwise you would have fought whatever it was instead of falling into the lake.
After a moment, she plopped down next to him by the fire, drawing her legs close to her chest and putting her arms around them. There was no use looking for a replacement for her bow now that she had something more interesting holding her attention. Dakota stared thoughtfully into the flickering green flames, absentmindedly rubbing away the message on her tablet. She glanced down, writing out a new message before showing it to him.
Who are you?

He listened quietly to the girl's wheezing laugh, replying to her shake of mock doubt with a defensive jerk of his head. A laugh was let out, though it was more of a chuckle as he read the first message. Well, she certainly looked younger. And apparently, he was even younger. "I'm twenty-one." Physically comparing them both, it didn't seem the case, especially taking into consideration the elf's battle-scarred body and the lady's lack of curves general appearance.
Eldak had to tilt his head a little to catch the slightly obscured letters in the dim light. He had no care for musical instruments, though at the last statement he let out a rude snort, turning to laugh. "Yes, obviously I would fight something I cannot see and risk my life on a simple night walk while I could have actually escaped." The elf turned his torso towards the fire, angling it so that she could see the new bruise that spread across his neck and shoulders.
"Besides, a man who is easily scared would have more scars on his back," he muttered in an undertone. It was true though, the assassin was no scaredy cat and while his back was relatively clear of scars save a few painful looking whip marks across it, his chest bore numerous slash marks, as did his arms and a particular scar, now marked by paler skin ran across his flesh, ending before it trailed beneath his belt.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, the elf turned back, only to be met with another question. He chewed on his bottom lip thoughtfully before answering. "Eldak. You need not know more than that." Given the strange stories sometimes told of him, maybe she would know. Or then again she might not.
"You're going to kill me with this amount of questions." Again, he checked his shirt, now grinning when he realised it was dry. He shrugged it on, deft fingers moving quickly to button it before looking visibly relieved at the protection against the now biting cold. For a moment he forgot that he actually had a question in mind and it took a while to focus on the other again. "And what about yourself?" CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GANGNAM STYLE

Venator's patrol path for the night led him out to the lake. There were very few enforcers in the hollow, and fewer still that ventured out into the forest on a regular basis. This was, however, a necessity, as many mages ventured into the forest for various reasons at various times, and someone needed to make sure they weren't up to trouble or getting killed by monsters. Venator volunteered for the position, and no one challenged him. Either they were hoping he'd get killed by a monster on one of his rounds or felt his physical strength made him more capable of handling what the forest could throw at him. Venator wouldn't have been surprised if it was a combination of the two.
Venator stood at the lakebed, scanning the nearby shores. Nothing yet- wait! There! A man and a woman, talking to each other. One of them seemed to be using fire (presumably with his own powers; such fickle users of their power, these mages were!) to dry off his shirt. Venator grunted with disapproval. It was dark, there were monsters around, and these mages were going for swims and casually talking to each other. Venator began to wonder if the man had earned those scars through bravery or stupidity, though younger men like him tended to have a hard time distinguishing between the two. Now the girl seemed to be writing something. It was people like this that made Venator's job more frustrating.
But, it was his sworn duty. He had made an oath - one that he renewed each morning. So Venator stood by his position at the lake, alert and ready. He would let these mages have their time together for a few moments longer, but not let them venture too far from him to protect, if necessary.

Dakota shrugged at is reaction, grinning as she methodically rubbed away the question on her tablet and scratched a new message into the wax. She angled the tablet towards him for him to read.
You never know. Some people like that sort of thing.
In the light of the greenish fire she examined the fresh bruise that stretched across his neck and shoulders, leaning slightly closer to get a better look. As she did so the few scars on his back caught her eye, and she looked them over just as curiously. Though she did feel a bit sorry for him-- the scars looked as though they had been rather painful when they were fresh-- at this point, her inquisitiveness outweighed her empathy.
As he put his shirt back on and asked about her, Dakota kneaded at her tablet, which was growing warm from the frequent use. She spent a while writing out her next message before showing him.
If I kill you with questions at least you won't have to be afraid of monsters anymore. I'm Dakota and I am not as mysterious as you so if you want to know more than that just ask.
Distracted by a sudden noise, Dakota looked towards the shore of the lake, frowning slightly. However, she couldn't see anything, and after a moment she turned back to Eldak. However her suspicions were raised and she quickly scraped out a new message in the margin of the tablet.
Speaking of monsters. Did you hear something?

Eldak only answered with a mild grimace and a small smile, humming noncommittally. He remained still as she peered at his scars, though turning away a little awkwardly. Interaction was truly not his forte. The elf huffed indignantly at her next statement. "Pah."
"Mysterious?" The blond blinked, before laughing uneasily. "I simply do not know what you'd want to know exactly, Dakota." What an interesting name. "Well, here's one question. Why did you come here?"
A sudden noise caught his attention, and green eyes rekindled with fire, scorching the dark edges of the lake with avid alertness. He had heard something, and involving someone else in his matters was not something he really wanted to do. "Who goes there?" His voice was loud and confident, carrying clearly over the water, though the darkness continued to press in against them, and even his ringing voice seemed rather small. It appeared as though the two mages had noticed him. That was somewhat reassuring, at least they were perceptive. And the man's first reaction had been to give Venator an open invitation. His voice carried a lot of confidence. Venator found it cocky. Still, he had a job to do, and being closer would make that job easier. With heavy strides, he made his way toward the two mages. He stopped at the edge of the fire.
"I am Venator, an Enforcer for the Hollow." He wasn't sure if they would be satisfied with that answer, but he didn't quite care. "What are you doing in the forest at this hour?"
