The outskirts of town. Venator spent a lot of time here. He was the best at uprooting troublemakers who used the outskirts of town to hide their dangerous activity, as well as tracking down and killing monsters who had managed to sneak in. And by best, he meant the only one really qualified to get the job done to his personal standards. With luck, these new guys would be close. He looked over them. They both seemed like they knew what they were doing and had the resumes to back that up. But were they what Venator was looking for? People he could actually trust to keep order when he was otherwise occupied? One of them seemed dedicated to the job, while the other one admitted that he would try to kill him at some point. At least he was honest.
"Alright, men, if you've done patrols as much as you say you have, you should be familiar with the stables. Its further from the main population than most of the other areas we patrol, but it is also one of the most dangerous. As you know, the stables are for raising livestock, and sometimes monsters. With the proper precautions, raising monsters is not so bad. However, some mages try to bring in monsters that are too dangerous, and sometimes wild monsters slip in and try to mix with the current livestock. These are two signs of trouble we need to be able to spot and deal with. Stay alert, since this is the place where we are just as likely to encounter a dangerous mage as a dangerous monster. Any questions?"

Ah, the stables. Kieran had visited this area little, wary of the exotic livestock people kept. Yet now he voluntarily strode towards the outskirts, silently wondering why he even volunteered. Right... it was because he had nothing to do.
There was someone else who offered to join... a man by the name of Danyal? He seemed devoted. Kieran did not know if he could say the same about himself. It wasn't unknown for him to lose his patience and walk out on a job, though this one proved fairly interesting.
He listened to Venator speak in silence, green eyes constantly assessing the surroundings, one hand resting casually by the sheath of a curved and deadly dagger. If danger struck, at least he would not be unprepared.
A dangerous mage? Monsters he handled confidently, but even the bravest Failloir was not too comfortable about killing another mage. Maybe a crazy one would. Nonetheless, Kieran gazed evenly at Venator, before his gaze wandered elsewhere, alert to any signs of trouble. A gut feel told him that something would happen, but he had no idea what would unfold before them. Just trust the instinct.
