The other day, I was trying to enchant a steel sword with some materials. Now, I understand that metal isn't the most forgiving material for enchanters to work with, and I'm certainly not the most skilled when not channeling my own spells directly, but I was having much more trouble than I expected with this weapon--the spell just would not hold. After hours of trying to coax the material to accept the magic, I had to give up. I don't think it's my own abilities that are the issue; I've worked with metals before, such as an iron staff, and was able to successfully enchant it without too much difficulty. As an enchanter, I feel I have the right to be told which materials won't accept magic, and I would disagree with the idea that this is something I should already know. I've noticed the only difference between iron that I've worked with before and this steel is that coal was used in the process to make the finished weapon. Could it be that coal hinders magic in some way?
