Venator immediately turned his sword toward the woman, pointing it at her chest. Had the vampires come running already? Perhaps not, as Venator studied the woman, she seemed somewhat familiar. Great, now he was recognizing the mages he had to protect. The idea of growing more comfortable with them like this disgusted him. Nevertheless, she had a peculiarly distinct appearance that made her presence here seem to be more than a coincidence. He had never noticed her with fangs, but that could be a slight application of a disguise spell. He had dealt with vampires before, and he knew their tricks. However, since Venator was a protector now, he couldn't assume the worst and just kill. He had to know what this woman was. If she wasn't a vampire, she could aid him in the hunt, and if she was, perhaps she could lead him into a trap for the bloodsuckers to ambush him. Then he would have them all in one place. But if she was a vampire, he couldn't let her know this was his plan. He had to ask her a question to make her think she had the opportunity to fool him.
"Show me your teeth," Venator said. "Now."

Venator stood by the lake bed shrouded in darkness, sword and shield drawn. He gazed across the lake, contemplating, wondering if any others were brave enough to join him in his crusade. That one girl brought up the vampires, though he didn't know enough about her to tell if she had the spine for vampire hunting (oh the irony!). Venator knew vampires with stronger magical abilities were drawn to the lake, so that was where he had chosen to make his stand against them. Maybe if he could kill the stronger ones, the others would get the message and leave, or be angered into going after Venator, in which case he would just kill the rest of them. After all, if he could fell some stronger ones, the weaker bloodsuckers would be no problem.
His armor protected him from their bite, and his cold heart protected him from their charm. It was time for these monsters to meet their nightmare.

Until Venator has more character development, good intentions or not, he will go after Eveline. He's managed to barely accept the idea that not all mages are evil, but vampires are a different story. He must never know.

Venator looked at Daja very carefully. He was here to harass the new vendor, but this blacksmith seemed interesting. Give Carlo a taste of his own medicine? That was exactly Venator's style. It had won him many battles in the past, and a lying, cheating, prankster of a vendor should be just as susceptible. But now was the time for his masterstroke. Time to show this blacksmith and new vendor how he ran this town.
"I would make his eat his own fruit," Venator announced in a louder voice than usual. He glanced across and saw Carlo taking a bite out of Kuroth's apple. "Which is why I took an apple from Carlo's stash this morning and switched it out with the one in the basket I just bought from you."
Carlo turned pale, throwing aside the apple and trying to spit out what was in his mouth. The stupid bastard fell for the bluff.
"What a reaction," Venator said, walking towards Carlo and drawing his sword. "I wonder what the new spell is?"
Carlo began to run. He ran as fast as his legs could take him, but he could never be fast enough.
"Dark Lunge!"
A dark aura surrounded Venator as his body propelled towards Carlo. Carlo tried to dodge to the side to avoid the sword, but attacking with a blade in a crowded area was something Venator was not so keen on doing. Which is why he brought up his shield just in time to collide with Carlo's face.
Between the collision and Carlo being flung against the street, there were at least a few unpleasant sounds that implied Carlo would not be engaging in strenuous activity for a while. Not caring. Venator walked up to the man now in fetal position and lifted him by the collar.
"What's the spell?! Who have you sold to?! ANSWER!"
Venator's gauntlet met Carlo's jaw, knocking a few teeth out.
"ANSWER ME!"
However, Venator's interrogation techniques were proving fruitless (ba-dum-tsss). Without intervention, this scene would have a very ugly end with few results.

The man seemed rather unfazed by Venator's method of payment. In fact, it seemed to be something he wanted. That was fine, Venator had wanted to get rid of that dagger for a while. Ugly guy in its history. Now it could be used for whatever this guy was into. He seemed like he had been waiting for an opportunity for a "lethal" weapon, so now Venator had an excuse to keep an eye on him. But he didn't want to stick around currently. These puns were dreadfully unpalatable.
"I'll let you two handle any further business then. I have to check on the guy across the way. Prankster thinks its funny to sneak sleep spells into his wares. I need to make sure he's cleaned up his act."
Venator took an apple out of the basket, leaving the rest behind as he crossed the road to a vendor who seemed to have a black eye, a broken nose, and was slightly hunched over. Said man became pale and cowered as Venator approached, stuttering something about how he swears that he had gone clean. Venator dropped his apple on the vendor's stand and snatched one of his pears.
"We'll see about that."
Venator analyzed the pear for a moment when he had an idea. He returned to Kuroth's stand and placed the pear on the table.
"At the risk of ending up asleep, would one of you like to sample one of Carlo's pears?" He then tapped the basket he had just bought. "You will be compensated for the day if it induces sleep. I would try it myself, but if he's still up to his games...I'll have to be awake to follow up a promise."

Venator now knew that today was going to be one of those days. One of those days that made him specifically request forest patrol the next day so he had an excuse to go to that big tree and rip the wings off of a Ropalo and beat it to death with one of his more blunt trophies. Yeah, one of those days. He didn't quite know how to take the woman who seemed to have some sort of bizarre interest in his weapons. It certainly didn't look like fear or guilt, so she wasn't the usual unfortunate kind of person who would gape at his weaponry; not the kind who was contemplating how much it was going to hurt when the sword and person became better acquainted. No, there seemed to be a more positive emotion behind this interest, which was unusual enough to bug the hell out of Venator.
Oh and this shopkeeper was now flirting with the girl. He must think himself some clever sort of bastard. But he didn't seem to be breaking any laws, so Venator was still lacking an excuse to break that cocky smile. He wasn't quite sure what it was about Kuroth that rubbed him the wrong way, though it was most likely due to Venator being completely unused to mages not regarding him with fear. Because of this, Kuroth might have been trying to be pleasant, but Venator could only interpret it as arrogance. Maybe he should do something to shock the vender. That should put him in line.
Venator reached into his collection of trophies, pulling out a blackened steel dagger. He stuck it into the top of the stand, though not deep enough to do serious property damage. "Good quality blade. It belonged to Zalthon the Necromancer. Don't worry, he died before he got to sacrificing any kids, so no cursed history behind it. Magically inert, but if you heard of the guy, it's quite the collector's piece. Or you could melt it down for something else, if you don't care. This for a basket of your best fruits." He released his grip from the hilt of the dagger, letting it stand on its own. "Does that sound sufficient?"

The outskirts of town. Venator spent a lot of time here. He was the best at uprooting troublemakers who used the outskirts of town to hide their dangerous activity, as well as tracking down and killing monsters who had managed to sneak in. And by best, he meant the only one really qualified to get the job done to his personal standards. With luck, these new guys would be close. He looked over them. They both seemed like they knew what they were doing and had the resumes to back that up. But were they what Venator was looking for? People he could actually trust to keep order when he was otherwise occupied? One of them seemed dedicated to the job, while the other one admitted that he would try to kill him at some point. At least he was honest.
"Alright, men, if you've done patrols as much as you say you have, you should be familiar with the stables. Its further from the main population than most of the other areas we patrol, but it is also one of the most dangerous. As you know, the stables are for raising livestock, and sometimes monsters. With the proper precautions, raising monsters is not so bad. However, some mages try to bring in monsters that are too dangerous, and sometimes wild monsters slip in and try to mix with the current livestock. These are two signs of trouble we need to be able to spot and deal with. Stay alert, since this is the place where we are just as likely to encounter a dangerous mage as a dangerous monster. Any questions?"

Venator was on his usual patrol through the market district. Alone, of course. The other enforcers would just cause a mess if they tried to stop a theft here, throwing their magic everywhere to show off. Then again, Venator wondered if a town full of mages would make them more or less inclined to show off. Are other magic users ever really that impressed by magic, or would it basically be a way of showing off who has the biggest magic in town. Venator recalled one of the enforcers who would have tried to make that a sex joke. Venator also recalled fondly how he had broken that enforcer's nose for goofing off the last time he had done something like that. Being the feared Mage Killer, there was no attempt at retribution. Sometimes having the people be afraid of you had its perks.
Venator noticed a new booth had opened up. His first instinct was to guess if the vendor was licensed, but he wasn't sure if the mages actually cared about that sort of thing. Such fickle people. What was he selling? Fresh and natural fruits and grains. Oh yes, natural foods sold by a mage. That was totally believable. Half of the vendors admitted to using magic and the other half didn't say one way or another, but this guy seemed determined to let everyone know that he sold "natural" fruits and grains. Was it an underhanded business ploy, or something more diabolical? Then again, he could have been telling the truth, but decades of despising mages made it hard for Venator to give this guy the benefit of the doubt. People moved away to further vendors as Venator approached the stand.
"Natural fruits and grains, huh?" Venator said with no attempt to hide his derision. "So tell me, how much do 'natural' fruits and grains go for?"

WRAITH Description: Wraiths do not usually have a physical or visible form other than their Heart, which is a black orb with a moving swirl inside of it, the color of the swirl depending on the Element of the Wraith, which can be anything except Dark or Light. If a Wraith's Heart is in peril of being destroyed or stolen and the Wraith hasn't been temporarily banished or subdued, it will take on a shadowy physical form, which can be in the shape of anything the Wraith can think of. This physical form can be killed, but is more powerful and aggressive than its incorporeal form. Wraiths are creatures of pure evil, and are extremely dangerous. Their Hearts are highly valuable and useful as extremely powerful crafting materials, but require the poacher to kill the Wraith the hard way, as a banished or subdued Wraith will be back before long. So you must ask yourself: is it worth the risk?
Location: Wraiths can appear in any enclosed or underground area. They despise sunlight, so they will never appear in any location that can be reached by natural sunlight.
Abilities: When a Wraith's heart resides in an area, that Wraith will have an effect on that area. Intruders will find the location to gradually become darker, in addition to another effect which varies depending on the Wraith's Element, but will always result in the intruder's death, should they dally for too long. When taking a physical form, Wraiths can shapeshift, fly, and phase through physical objects should they have time to react to it. Wraiths can also cast random spells of their Element and the Dark Element. Wraiths are highly resistant to their Element and Dark.
Weaknesses: Wraiths will avoid sunlight at all costs, and naturally the Light Element is extremely harmful to them. Other elemental weaknesses depend on the type of Wraith. The easiest way to kill a Wraith is to destroy its Heart, which is usually well-hidden, but will not take much effort to break. Advanced Light spells, Blood Magic, and certain powerful artifacts are capable of banishing or subduing a Wraith, but a Wraith cannot be banished by the same trick twice. A Wraith can only be killed by destroying its heart or killing its physical form, though it can be banished in either form.

It appeared as though the two mages had noticed him. That was somewhat reassuring, at least they were perceptive. And the man's first reaction had been to give Venator an open invitation. His voice carried a lot of confidence. Venator found it cocky. Still, he had a job to do, and being closer would make that job easier. With heavy strides, he made his way toward the two mages. He stopped at the edge of the fire.
"I am Venator, an Enforcer for the Hollow." He wasn't sure if they would be satisfied with that answer, but he didn't quite care. "What are you doing in the forest at this hour?"

CRANN CHAMELEON Description: This large lizard in many ways resembles its ordinary lizard counterpart, with a few major exceptions. First, the Crann Chameleon is huge, typically double the size of a fully grown human. The Crann Chameleon is also far more gifted at blending into its surroundings, as it does so by magical means, making it a very dangerous stealth creature. Fortunately, Crann Chameleons are not typically aggressive, and do not feed on humans. However, they are territorial, and will attack any who bother them or get too close for comfort.
Location: As the name implies, Crann Chameleons are found in and on Crann Mor, as it is the only tree large enough for them to climb on.
Abilities: The Crann Chameleon has a magical ability to camouflage, and even the most well-trained trackers will have difficulty pinpointing them while they are hiding, though a careful or magically enhanced eye can pick up the distortion in light caused by their movement. Though usually lethargic, when threatened, they can move extraordinarily quickly and quietly, a trait that, when combined with their camouflage, makes them almost impossible to pin down. Their tongues can lash out up to twenty feet, and are coated in an adhesive saliva to latch onto prey or other surfaces (their tongues are strong enough to support their weight when they use their tongues to swing). The Crann Chameleon also has a strangely powerful resistance to Fire, and their skin is difficult to pierce.
Weaknesses: The Crann Chameleon is especially vulnerable to cold, so Ice magic is a strong asset for those who intend to hunt them or accidentally invoke their wrath. Also, though their skin is difficult to pierce, it bruises easily from bludgeoning, which also damages their bones and internal organs with surprising ease.

I'm not going to lie...the town guard is pretty thin, and most of what we have on the force is pretty pathetic. The point of the matter is we need more enforcers. As the Hollow grows, it's going to be harder for us to keep order with such small numbers. For that reason, we have devised a test. Anyone willing to join the enforcers will join me for a patrol, and I will judge your performance. Why me? I suppose a willingness to work with the Mage Killer while resisting the urge to stab him in the back is a necessary quality. For those of you riding along just for the chance to stab me in the back, I invite you to try, for if you succeed, then clearly I am not qualified to defend the Hollow. If you can get through the patrol without trying to kill me and are able to handle any situation that arises, you will be given a part-time position with the enforcers, so you can still do all of that mage stuff you mages do.
Any volunteers?
