@tagged Oooh, green. That was a nice colour. Carefully, he slipped the egg into his pocket. Miraculously, none of them had broken yet. Ah well, march onwards to collect the treasures then! Hopefully he'd have a whole bunch by the end of this. A decisive nod before the man once again set off, this time once again following that faded animal track. It looked a little different though. Yes, indeed, for there were tiny webbed animal prints in the mud now.
A mini monster? Or just a harmless duck?
Wait a moment. Ducks laid eggs. Were all these troublesome eggs the plan of a magical duck? Stupid bird. Nevertheless, he followed the trail, stumbling over various rocks that coincidentally happened to be in his way. Ugh, what were the gods even doing today? Making life difficult for him that was what.
Eldak stopped abruptly as his foot failed to come into contact with the dirt. Instead, it disappeared down a deep hole, leaving the elf in an ungainly heap on the ground. "Are you kidding me..." Now the gods really were just toying with him, huh. First causing him to trip over something, then dumping one of the eggs in the lake, and then throwing something at his head and now this. In all honesty he wasn't even sure if it was the gods' fault, but heck; he needed to blame someone or something.
"This is all your fault." Childishly sticking his tongue out at a stick that lay in the mud. The elf was still in the same position as before, but his arm was starting to go dead. Better start moving then.
After a lot of wiggling and awkward shifting, he managed to pull himself into a relatively comfortable position, though his leg was still stuck in the damned hole. The ground was so ridiculously slippery it was near impossible to pull himself out. Stupid hole.
It wasn't much better when a bird flew past his ear, squawking as it did so. Almost laughing at him as the elf jumped, uttering a strangled yelp as he did so. For a brave and fearless pirate assassin, he sure was easily startled.
Well it was a blessing in disguise, for the sudden jump had freed his leg from it's prison. With a low moan of relief, he massaged his leg to get the blood up and running again. How was he going to find more of those eggs without functioning legs?
This time though, he didn't really have to get up and look for another one. The elf tilted his head upwards, scanning the skies in mild annoyance and good-naturedly cursing the gods. Cursing the gods is never a good idea, good intentions or not. This time, apparently the gods weren't too pleased. An egg hurtled towards him, connecting to his abdomen with a thump and causing poor Eldak to double over in pain. His hand groped around for the egg, fingers closing over the round object and lifting it up. made by CAPTAIN of GANGNAM STYLE

It occurred to Onork that with four eggs, not only did he beat his old record, but he actually doubled it! He then got more excited about the idea of finding more eggs. If he found two more, then he would have tripled his record, and two more after that would mean quadrupling it! Onork wasn't quite sure what the next word was, but having another two after that would be five times his record. If his total of eggs reached ten, the he would have FIVETUPLED HIS RECORD. That would provide so many good feelings, he wouldn't even care that it would be nigh impossible to beat again. It would be awesome!
Onork was distracted when he saw something light up in the distance. It looked like fire...except the color wasn't quite right. What a bizarre occurrence. Was there someone else here doing weird things? Did Onork accidentally do it? Was that time's way of killing off some future Onork? His morbid curiosity got the better of him and he started running towards the light, completely forgetting about his goal of fivetupling his record.
Onork dashed in a straight line to where the light was, which took him directly into the lake. He began waddling through the water, and was almost at the point where he couldn't stand anymore when it occurred to him that this might be a bad idea. That future Onork that had drowned had to have come from somewhere, and it might have been from swimming in a direct line at a random light while accidentally time traveling. Onork waddled back to shore, deciding to take the long, safe, and dry route to where the light was.
When Onork reached land, he looked back in the direction of the light and noticed that it was gone. Onork frowned: this was inconvenient. At least he remembered the general direction, so he could look for clues! Excited, Onork began rushing along the shoreline when he tripped. Unlike his usual tripping, something had actually caused it. He looked at the area around his foot to see something that reminded him of his other goal: an egg.

Onork looked at the egg with bewilderment. Another green one? Onork hadn't really paid attention to the colors of the eggs he had been collecting, but must have registered the colors subconsciously because the arrival of another green one startled him. He had assumed that each egg was a different color whenever there was an egg hunt. Well, maybe it was because he never got far enough in an egg hunt before to get color repeats. Still, this knowledge shocked him. It completely changed the way he looked at his life. If egg colors could be the same, could people be the same too? What if there was another Onork somewhere? Well, there probably was another Onork somewhere. There were several dead ones, at least. In fact, one was feeding the fish of this very lake. The morbid thought of his own corpse being eaten by fish felt far less startling to him than the revelation that eggs could appear in different colors. Onork quickly put the egg in his pocket so he wouldn't have to think about it anymore.
Speaking of not thinking about eggs anymore, Onork refocused himself on the task of investigating that strange light he had seen earlier. As he walked along the edge of the lake, he noticed another sudden burst of light. It seemed a bit closer than the previous light Onork had seen, which meant two things. One, the source of the light wasn't dead, so it probably wasn't another Onork. Two, he was gaining on the source of light. Onork hopped with glee and hurried to the source of the sudden burst.
As he approached, he tripped again. He looked at his foot, terrified of seeing another green egg. He could handle a second of any of the other colors, since that wouldn't imply much more than the second green egg, but if there was a third green egg...oh man, that would mean there could be three of anything that looked exactly the same. Onork didn't think he would be able to handle that revelation. Fortunately, there wasn't even an egg there. Onork had tripped over a footprint in the mud.
Onork got up and circled around the footprint, and looked at the others that surrounded it. Were they his own footprints? Had he gone full circle around the lake? No, these footprints were different from the ones Onork was leaving as he paced about. This had to be a different person. In fact, it couldn't be another Onork. There was another person, another real person, and judging by the nearby imprint of a body, someone just as clumsy as he was! Maybe they could be friends! Maybe this mysterious other person could lead him back to town! Or maybe this person was a deranged serial killer who dragged his prey into the lake and watched them drown because he found their futile struggles amusing, but Onork did not think of this third option, just the first two.
As Onork pranced about, excited to meet this other person, he noticed that all of this foot traffic had caused something in the mud to unearth. It was egg shaped, but still covered in mud, so Onork couldn't see the color right away. He quickly picked up the egg and shoved it into his pocket before it could show him something he was not mentally prepared for and forced the thought from his mind. Once again forgetting the eggs, Onork began to follow the footprints.
Onork had also forgotten about the burst of light that he had been so interested in a moment earlier, but the footprints led in that very same direction...

@tagged Ah, another red one! Not bad at all. He liked the colour red. Red was a nice colour. His thoughts ran on for a while as he continued to simply sit on the ground and wait for his leg to wake. It took a while before he stood up once again. Mentally, he counted the number of eggs he had found. Four, huh. Idly, he wondered whether there were sparkly ones. Yes, sparkly eggs sounded nice. He'd look for one then.
Honestly, he didn't want to use up too much energy on this. The regular way it was then. The naked eye wasn't very useful, but it'd have to do for now. He needed some light though. A quick incantation later, and the same fiery bird hovered around him, lighting up the path.
Eldak had no idea where to start, so he'd follow the duck trail then, in hope that all these eggs were the ploy for an annoying magical duck and once he reached the nest he'd be able get all the shiny pretty eggs. Honestly, this was probably why he became a pirate in the first place. Shiny pretty objects? Absolutely awesome.
For quite a while the elf simply followed the track. The last thing he expected was for an entire bunch of ducklings to start waddling at him like a demented duck army, quacking as they did so. The blond back tracked as quickly as possible as the ducks neared him, even hauling himself up into a nearby tree to escape the ducklings. Yellow, fluffy little demons. "Blasted ducks."
Wait, if there were ducklings then there had to be a nest right? And nests had eggs right? The elf scrambled down from the tree, braving the fluffy yellow demons that surrounded him as he searched the tall grasses. Hmm, there was a nest, but only broken egg shells lay there. Presumably the ducklings then. Wait hold on, there was a smaller portion covered in twigs. Eldak reached out, feeling his hand close around a round object. made by CAPTAIN of GANGNAM STYLE

Don't Fear The Dark It lies behind stars and under hills, And empty holes it fills. It comes first and follows after, Ends life, kills laughter. How long had it been since her last outing? Well, My dear if you have to ask the question.... she managed a chuckle, her walking stick in one hand, her other hand pulling her curls from her face to get a better look at the lake ahead of her and the various willows that extended their leaves to tickle her hair, or hand a tick in her eye. "Ah!" she swatted before the bug could bite and let it fall off. Looking up to the branch of leaves that held the tick she touched it briefly, let the limb curl between her fingers as she extended a hand, wandering what her potions could learn to love of the ease of willows. drawing away, she moved onward, feeling the soft earth under her moccasins, and the light bit of air that disturbed the timelessness of the lake that now shivered and lapped unto the shore. She began scanning around, prompted, as some of the folk from the inner forest had come in with bundles of eggs saying they had simply been 'laying about'. What nonsense. Eggs to not materialize unless it is by some spell, and as this was an age of Godlessness, perhaps it was some demon... playing a trick. Her steps hiccuped causing her to trip. both hands suddenly clung to her staff, holding back an anxiety attack. She leaned, felt the wood creak under her weight, and could make herself close her eyes... but she capture her air... she tried to breathe....
Water. I need water. She looked to her side, a bottle tied to her side with no water inside it. She lifted her hand, scanning around her, the dampened fertile ground... spotting a boy... one of his limbs now a root in the ground. She examined his face before she proceeded to help. He didn't seem too bothered, but muttered various epithets under breathe, making odd-faces. This gave her enough evidence to giggle, but she wondered how to help, most men having their oddly boyish-pride about them.
However, having happened upon it at a rather comical time, she watched a duck fly past him, casing his leg to sprout from the ground. Truly, some magical moments needed no incantation. But to make matters somewhat worse, an egg launched at his abdomen. She looked around whilst he doubled over in pain. She drew her staff in both hands, her breathe still short but in no mind to tolerate purposeful hurt. She eased though, putting her staff into a hand, trying to regain her mind. It could be his friend... a friend... someone?
She walked by the water, toward the boy and he looked around, and held up a hand as she moved past him. "I mean no ill, stranger, but are you alright?" She leaned her body toward the lake to give him some indication that she would walk that way, looking down at her feet as she maneuvered along the rocks with trained steps. She kneeled, and removed the bottle from her side, filling it, and noticed something deeper within the water, just an odd color. She glanced back at the boy, and corked her bottle, tying in back into the place on her belt with the many other rucksacks, and put her free hand into the water, unworried about the sleeve. her fingers dragging over a non-jagged surface, she thought she could feel the softness of color on the shape, and curling her fingers around the object, dislodging it from its place, drew its form up to her face.

Another green egg! The elf definitely hadn't counted on that. Who knew ducks lay green eggs? He was starting to think that this was simply the gods playing a trick on them. The elf hadn't really been strictly religious, he always viewed the gods just as other people, just with more power. So he found it rather easy to mentally shout profanities at them.
He wasn't alone, he realised. Being so engrossed in entangling himself from the quacking ducklings, the elf hadn't registered the presence of two others. Even as the woman approached and addressed him, the assassin let out a started yelp, hurriedly extracting the yellow duckling that had latched itself onto his foot. An awkward laugh escaped him as he replied the stranger. "Yes, yes! I'm perfectly fine."
"Shoo, shoo, going away duckies." He hissed at the birds. "I have things to do." That only served to aggravate them more, for now they huddled around his feet, rendering the elf immobile. He didn't want to hurt them, so he merely cast a helpless look at said ducklings, his pride preventing him from asking for help.
Eldak let out a frustrated growl, running a hand through messy blond hair. "Things to do, like find colourful eggs." Almost at once, the ducklings dispersed, each heading off to a different direction. "Ah." Now the silly waddling ducks didn't simply waddle off pointlessly, they each seemed to be heading in their respective directions with purpose.
Purpose, huh. Well then. Ignoring the two unknown mages, the elf set off, following one particular duckling through long grasses, a comically intense look of concentration on his pale face. It was a little unexpected when the duckling turned around, emitted an angry quack and ran at full speed towards Eldak, screeching for all its worth. Said elf scrambled backwards, tripping over something as he did so. An arm raised to fend off the fluffy yellow bird, but no impact came. Instead, an egg flew into his face as he cautiously lowered his arm.

Onork heard voices up ahead. Oh man, he was so close! And there were two people! And those two people weren't the same person! One of the voices sounded female, and the other sounded male, and neither of them sounded like Onork! There was so much variety happening up ahead! And when Onork got closer, it was true! There was a male and a female and they weren't even the same race! There was so much variety here! The male seemed to be preoccupied with ducks, while the female was not. The sheer number of differences here was making Onork feel uncharacteristically giddy. Maybe the second green egg was a fluke, like they were twins or something. Onork began to feel better about his earlier existential crisis when something seemed to attack the male. Onork moved closer to inspect when he saw it.
IT WAS ANOTHER GREEN EGG. OH GOD THERE WERE THREE OF THEM. AT LEAST. AND THEY WERE EVIL. THEY WERE THE SAME AND THEY WERE EVIL. THEY HATED PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT IDENTICAL AND WANTED TO DESTROY THEM ALL AND CONVERT THEM INTO GREEN EGGS. OH GOD, WHAT IF THE GREEN EGGS ONORK HAD FOUND USED TO BE GOOD, DIFFERENT THINGS, LIKE A RABBIT, OR LINT? MAYBE THERE WAS SOME EVIL MASTERMIND CONVERTING THINGS INTO SIMILARLY COLORED EGGS IN AN ATTEMPT TO UPSET THE SPACE-TIME CONTINUUM. THAT MEANT IT WAS ONORK'S JOB TO STOP THIS FORCE OF EVIL AND COLLECT ALL OF THE EGGS SO THAT HE COULD CURE THEM OF THEIR GREEN AND RESTORE BALANCE TO THE UNIVERSE, AND THEN ONORK WOULD BE A HERO. AND WHOEVER'S-IN-CHARGE WOULD GIVE HIM A MEDAL, OR AT LEAST SAY A NICE THING. AND ALL THE DIFFERENT COLORED EGGS WOULD THROW HIM A PARTY, ALL TEN OF THEM, BECAUSE ONORK WOULD FIND EXACTLY TEN EGGS TO FIVETUPLE HIS RECORD, AND ADOPT THEM ALL AND MAKE THEM HIS FRIENDS. HE WOULD HAVE SO MANY FRIENDS. AND THE TWO PEOPLE HERE WOULD ALSO BE HIS FRIENDS, AND ONORK WOULD ALSO BE HIS-
Wait, Onork?
Onork snapped out of his trance to realize two things. One, he had been drooling. Two, there was another Onork standing five feet in front of him. The two Onorks looked at each other, then at the nearby mages, then back at each other, then at the ground where there was an egg, which present Onork quickly stuffed in his pocket, and then back at each other again.
"Oh no..." both Onorks said at the same time.

I SEE FIRE♛ 387 ♛ Moving to Naofa! What was it about ducks and green eggs anyway?! Eldak was now rather convinced that these ducks laid green eggs. Should he just search another area then? The blond was sure than when he was picking out the presences of the eggs, there were a few more lights in the distance. Naofa Gardens, perhaps. Well, it wasn't too far off, he could easily make it there.
He now had one fairly normal looking egg, two pretty red ones and three green eggs. What a nice pattern. Now if only he could find another interesting colour. Or just more eggs. The elf had always been a avid collector of just about anything and everything, and this strange "egg-hunting" situation was turning out quite well. Now to find a new area and... gosh was the duckling still following him?
"Git." The elf flapped his arms at the bird, frowning and making shrill yips akin to that of a fox in hope of it scaring the duckling off. All to no avail - the duckling was stubbornly attached to his foot, following as he continued his journey inland. It suddenly occurredto him that he was being rude to the two strangers, one of which he had yet to address. After living rogue for a few years, manners had kind of ceased to be of utmost importance to him, unlike the time he spent with the royal family of the woods.
"I'm sorry to leave so soon after this meeting." His voice rang with a pleasant, faintly foreign lilt as he bade his two acquaintances, if you could even call them that, goodbye. "I'll see you two around." The last statement was a little hesitant, ending with a slight smile before Eldak resumed his hunt, occasionally spinning to stare at the persistent duckling before he continued onwards.
The ambience of the quiet lake and its inhabitants, namely the noisy ducks, faded as the new sound of voices replaced them. It didn't take long for him to reach town, and an even shorter time to reach the tranquil greenery of Naofa Gardens. When he looked back, the duckling had already disappeared. Well, the companionship was nice while it lasted. Again, the elf was hit on the head as he turned around. Stifling a groan, Eldak turned, eyes landing on an innocently shaped...egg.
